LGBTQ+ - Affirming Therapy
Specializing in providing affirming care to the LGBTQ+ community.
You've realized that you're different than other people in your life and you're trying to figure out what that means. Exploring your sexual or gender identity can be an exciting time - but also very scary or even overwhelming. Even more complex is when you acknowledge that other issues play a role, such as race, gender, and class (to name a few). Therapy is a safe space to explore and take the time to figure things out and we can do this together. Whether you identify as gay, lesbian, transgender, or non-binary, your unique identity is seen, recognized, and validated here.
What many people don't realize is that you don't just come out one time. Coming out as gay or transgender requires many small comings-out - perhaps even on a daily basis. Whether you're telling your family, friends, or even the ancillary people in your life such as your coworkers or your doctors, we will work to determine whether the time is right for you to come out, identify who the safe people in your life are to come out to, and then discuss ways to get the support you need while you navigate this process.
Transitioning to another gender is a brand new start to your life. Whether you're dealing with issues related to exploring your gender identity, beginning to transition, or coming out to your friends and family, I will support you through the process and help you to think through the different aspects. I provide hormone assessments and letters for beginning hormone therapy or for surgery.
LGBTQ Parenting for the Non-Bio Parent
Your dreams have come true and you and your partner have had the most beautiful baby you can imagine. But what is your role as the non-biological parent? I can help you process your thoughts and navigate this new part of your life while solidifying your space within the family.
LGBTQ Political Stress
The current political atmosphere is a difficult one to navigate if you identify as LGBTQ+. I provide emotional support and coping strategies for dealing with the political stress related to LGBTQ+ identity.
Have all the negative messages you've received from society about your sexual orientation or gender identity begun to sink in to the point where you're starting to believe it? This can lead to increased symptoms of depression, decreased self-esteem, and negative self-talk. I can help you work through these feelings while simultaneously helping you to recognize your worth and your value. YOU MATTER.
